LONDON 15 MAY 2014 – The AIBs 2014, the global factual broadcasting awards run by the Association for International Broadcasting (AIB), have been launched. Broadcasters and content producers from all over the world are invited to submit the best of TV, radio and online factual reporting and investigation programmes by 23 July. Entries can be in any language and can cover topics from live journalism to sport, children’s factual to current affairs, investigative reporting to science.

The AIBs were established to reward programme makers in factual genres who produce inspiring content that stimulates audiences either at home or abroad. They attract outstanding content, with programmes entered by broadcasters, independent producers and journalists from countries on every continent. The awards are independent of commercial interest and judged by a panel of independent highly respected media professionals.

“In the past nine years we have attracted entries in dozens of languages and it has been great to reward work in Nepalese, Arabic, Swedish, French, Filipino, Spanish, Russian and many others.” says Simon Spanswick, CEO of the AIB. “We’ve been amazed by the diversity of stories that have been expertly covered by broadcasters and independent producers on every continent. The range of material that we’ve seen – from India to Sweden, the Philippines to Australia, Chile to the USA – has been extraordinary, often powerful, always compelling. It has also brought innovative programme makers to the attention of major broadcasters and we are proud of our role in helping develop the careers of many talented people.”

The increasing importance and quality of online broadcasting is recognised this year by a new award for the best online factual production. Outstanding on-air talent will also be rewarded in separate categories for TV and radio.

Entries must be submitted to the AIB by Friday 23 July 2014. The “AIBs 2014 Entry Booklet”, containing full details of all the awards as well as how to enter, is available to view and download here.

The gala awards ceremony will this year be held in London on Wednesday 5th November 2014 where the winners will be announced in front of guests representing the media industry from around the world.

This year’s awards are sponsored by Eutelsat.
