Daniel Bruce is an international media specialist with 20 years’ experience in broadcasting, journalism, regulation, support to independent media development and press freedom worldwide. He first joined Internews in 2008, originally as a Chief of Party in various countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and was latterly appointed Chief Executive for the UK and Europe in early 2014. 

Prior to this, Bruce worked on numerous media and free expression projects across three continents for Article 19, Albany Associates, the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association, Fondation Hirondelle and others. Across East Africa, he led a programme to develop new self-regulatory frameworks for UNESCO. 

Since his appointment as Chief Executive, Bruce has played a leadership role across a range of complex Internews projects such as the Gaza Strip conflict, West Africa Ebola outbreak, Ukraine conflict and various other major disaster responses.  Meanwhile, he has written and commented extensively on the underlying issues, and challenges in the global media sector in the so-called ‘post-truth’ era. 

Bruce serves as a Senior Deputy Steward for the World Economic Forum’s ‘Information & Entertainment Systems Initiative’ and is a long-serving Board Director of the Communicating with Disaster Affected Communities (CDAC) Network. 

Bruce spent his early career as a journalist, editor and broadcaster in the UK winning various awards. In his last broadcasting role, Bruce was Network Editor for one of the UK’s independent radio groups. He worked closely with the regulator OFCOM, and was the commercial news industry’s representative to House of Lords Communications Committee.
