Jim Carroll

Jim Carroll leads the news and cJim Carrollurrent affairs division at Australia’s Special Broadcasting Service. SBS is a national public broadcaster delivering content across three television networks, multiple radio channels and digital platforms.

Jim is one of Australia’s most experienced news and current affairs executives having previously spent more than two decades in senior roles at Australia’s three commercial television networks: the Nine Network, Network Seven and eleven years at Network Ten,  and six years as Head of News and Public Affairs.

Born in Sydney, Jim began his career as a newspaper journalist at News Limited before moving into radio. After working for agencies in Europe he returned to complete an economics degree before becoming a senior advisor to the New South Wales Premier then to television, Jim travelled widely as a journalist covering stories in the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Jim has managed teams of 300 editorial and operational staff spread across all Australian states and domestic and international bureaus. He has led coverage of many major domestic and international events and at SBS has implemented the first cross platform
newsroom operation and expanded the broadcaster’s international coverage.

Jim joined SBS in February 2013. He is also a director of the Australian Science Media Centre and the Australia Day Council (NSW).
