Last week for the public to decide ‘Best Coverage of Climate Change’

Viewing and voting from AIBs website or Facebook page

Cranbrook, UK, 25 October 2010 –    Voting for the People’s Choice category, “Best coverage of climate change”, closes on the 31st October and it is proving to be a closely fought contest.  This vote marks the first time in the history of the AIBs (International Media Excellence Awards) that the Association for International Broadcasting is giving the general public the deciding vote in choosing the winner of an award.

Anyone can view the short listed entries online, either at the AIBs website, theaibs.tv, or on The AIBs Facebook page and then vote for their favourite.  It is easy for Facebook users to participate, viewing the six candidates from within Facebook and then using their Facebook login to access the voting page on the AIBs website.

From the record number of entries submitted by broadcasters in all parts of the world, the AIB shortlisted the following 6 entries to make up the online vote:

– Phoenix TV, Hong Kong: ‘Earth Rescue Operation’ looks at man’s ingenuity in finding solutions for climate change problems

The United Nations TV series ’21st Century’ investigates Bolivia’s disappearing glaciers

VRT’s ‘Low Impact Man’ looks at the impact on Steven Vromman and his family in his efforts to lead an ecologically-sound lifestyle

CNN’s Going Green – The Climate Summit looked at a broad range of the issues on the table – from the impact of the “Climategate” scandal to the effects of melting glaciers in Greenland and rising sea levels in Asia to deforestation in Indonesia

BBC’s current affairs interview programme ‘Hard Talk’ went on the road to Greenland to challenge ministers from developed and developing countries who were gathered for climate change discussions

– The UK’s Sky Television sent Ross Kemp to the Amazon to report on the production of two highly-valued commodities – cocaine and gold – that is destroying and polluting the countryside in Peru

The 2010 AIBs are sponsored by ADB (Advanced Digital Broadcast), Bloomberg Television, Eurosport and 1 Goal (“Education for all”). The award ceremony takes place at a gala evening attended by broadcasters from around the world on Tuesday, 9 November 2010 in London.
