Umesh Upadhyay is a veteran television journalist, academic and a communications expert. He has over two decades of experience in the media and the academic domain. Umesh regularly writes opinion pieces on some of the most pressing public policy and political issues of the day.
Mr. Upadhyay is an alumnus of Delhi University and completed his Master of Philosophy in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). He has also trained at professional institutions such as FTII (Pune), Asian Institute for Broadcasting 
Development (Kula Lumpur), BSky B (London) and CPC (Delhi) among others.
His prior experience includes working with Doordarshan (India’s Public Broadcaster), All India Radio (AIR), Zee News, SAB TV, Home TV, Disha Education Society, Reliance Industries Limited to name a few. He is a noted member of the prestigious Editors Guild of India and News Broadcaster Association. He has also served as the member of the Academic Council of Delhi University. He is a member of the General Council of Makhan Lal Chaturvedi National Journalism University.
Mr. Upadhyay started his career as a lecturer at Delhi University but soon made a foray into media with Press Trust of India (PTI). He has held various senior positions with some of the biggest News channels in India. He has conceived, produced and presented many pioneering programmes during his career in the media.
He is currently the President News of Network18. His responsibilities include bringing synergy and editorial integration amongst various channels of the group, including CNN-IBN, IBN7, IBN Lokmat and ETV channels.
